Design your Glatz parasol
Parasol configuratorDesign your Glatz parasol
Parasol configuratorIn the world of parasols, Glatz AG stands out not only for its high-quality products, but most of all for its philosophy of saying “Why not?” instead of “That’s not possible!” Individuality is front and centre at Glatz. In this interview, Andreas Walter and Jakob Dreyer, the creative minds behind many tailor-made solutions, talk about how they implement seemingly impossible customer requests.
Initial one-on-one contact is the beginning of any successful collaboration. At this stage, Walter and Dreyer clarify what kind of project they’re dealing with: Is it a hotel patio, a city café or a particularly windy location? From the initial analysis to the detailed planning, it is always a matter of finding a solution that fits perfectly with the environment.
Dreyer emphasises: “Our customers benefit from our intensive expertise and our ability to present every conceivable solution.”
Solution finder: As Project Engineer, Jakob Dreyer has been the first point of contact for customers and distributors since 2023.
Glatz does not rely solely on digital tools – it combines technical innovation with individual support. Thanks to close interlinking of engineering, sales and production, special customer requests can often be implemented within a week.
The challenges facing the Glatz team are as diverse as the projects themselves. Whether it’s for special sizes, irregular parasol shapes or windproof fixations, each request is analysed with precise planning and technical expertise. There is a particular focus is on aesthetic harmony: A Glatz parasol must not only be able to be opened and closed mechanically without issue, it also has to be perfectly integrated into the environment.
Andreas Walter explains: “Our philosophy is that every solution must work seamlessly.”
Armed with a vision and an innovative spirit, Andreas Walter built the project engineering department at Glatz AG in 2018.
Thanks to its in-house production, Glatz can manufacture custom-made products with minimal additional time, even during the high season. A transparent special price list ensures planning security and budget control.
The projects for which Glatz has developed innovative solutions for challenging locations are particularly impressive. One example that stands out is a beach club at Lake Wörthersee, where special fixations, off-centre masts and integrated lighting created the perfect harmony between form and function.
Jakob Dreyer explains: “We developed a number of special solutions for this project, such as special ground fastenings, extended masts, integrated radiant heaters and lighting, as well as a closing curve analysis. Rain gutters were installed between the parasols to ensure optimal protection even in bad weather. This made the beach club atmospheric, both during the day and at night.”
Another creative challenge was overcome in Vienna: A gelateria with three large trees needed to be fully shaded.
Andreas Walter adds: “Here it was crucial to precisely measure the tree positions at the height of the parasol roof. The tree cut-outs could only be integrated in the textile, but not in the ribs. By taking precise on-site measurements, we adjusted the parasols with millimetre precision for perfect results.”
Jakob Dreyer summarises: “As demonstrated in many different projects, we not only sell parasols, but also create ambience.”
The future of outdoor areas is increasingly being shaped by innovative technologies. Glatz has already moved towards smart parasols that can be combined with weather and light controls.
Another issue for the future is sustainability. The demand for environmentally friendly materials is increasing, and Glatz is continuously working on the development of new, sustainable fabrics and frame variants. Durable materials, energy-efficient lighting and resource-saving production methods are key components of the company’s vision.
Andreas Walter explains: “We want to not only develop parasols that are functional and beautiful, but ones that are also produced in a resource-saving manner and have a long service life.”
Behind every tailor-made parasol is a team of experts who work hand in hand to develop innovative solutions.
Jakob Dreyer emphasises: “Our close cooperation within the company and with our sales partners is crucial in allowing us to respond flexibly to customer requirements and to create outstanding solutions.”
The intensive training of the sales partners ensures that every customer receives expert advice. Annual training programmes and on-site support help Glatz to successfully implement complex projects.
Whether taking on large projects or custom designs, Glatz represents a culture of possibilities. Thanks to its combination of technical expertise, personalised service and tailored solutions, the company is able to keep raising the bar.

Andreas Walter sums it up: “Our customers don’t just get a product. They also get a solution that is precisely tailored to their needs – and this is exactly what drives us.”
With this philosophy, Glatz remains a reliable partner for high-quality, individual shading solutions, always seeking new, innovative ways to make the impossible possible.
