Which parasol is suitable for balconies?

Centre-pole parasols

Centre-pole parasols are the traditional parasol design. The aluminium or wooden mast is located in the centre, which makes the balcony parasol particularly stable and thus extremely wind-resistant. Smaller models are opened using a runner. Depending on their size, centre-pole parasols are opened with a crank or pulley system. The tilt function allows them to be adjusted to the changing position of the sun.

Cantilever parasols

In the case of a cantilever parasol, the parasol roof hangs freely over the area that is to be shaded. The mast is mounted on the side and thus does not take up any space in the shade area. This can be very convenient, especially on smaller balconies. An integrated swivel joint allows the parasol roof to be adjusted to the position of the sun. Compared to centre-pole parasols, cantilever parasols have a larger surface area for the wind to blow against. Proper fixation is therefore essential.

Rectangular balcony parasols

Rectangular parasols are very popular for balconies. The rectangular shape allows the balcony parasol to be placed flush with the wall of the house. This makes them particularly practical when space is limited. Since seating areas on balconies are usually also arranged in a rectangular shape, this achieves the best shade yield.

Windproof fixation

Parasol base

A cantilever parasol tends to require a greater base weight than a centre-pole parasol. However, the maximum wind speeds specified can only be achieved with a fixed anchor in the ground and a horizontally positioned parasol roof.

Parasol fixation to balcony railings

We only recommend fixation to a railing using a balcony clamp for smaller centre-pole parasols. Cantilever parasols are not suitable for fixation to railings.

Mounted to house wall

Since a balcony clamp cannot support the weight of larger centre-pole and cantilever parasols, a space-saving fixation via a wall console is recommended in these cases. While you can fasten a balcony clamp to the balcony railing yourself, the installation of a wall console must be carried out by a professional on site.

Permanent ground fixation

The balcony parasol can withstand the highest wind speeds with a fixed anchoring using a ground socket or a mounting plate firmly anchored in the ground. This makes sense if a regular spot on the balcony is to be shaded. A professional assessment is required to determine whether your balcony is suitable for permanent ground fixation.
