Parasol fabrics & Ribs

In general, all of the GLATZ sunshade fabrics are interchangeable, as long as the GLATZ range still includes the fabric and/or the model of sunshade in question. Please bear in mind, however, that replacing the fabric may be more expensive than ordering a completely new sunshade. This is because replacing the fabric involves manual labor, and in most cases, can only be completed via a specialist retailer. The retailer from whom you purchased your sunshade is responsible for providing you with the optimum product advice and any possible replacement of the fabric.

Notwithstanding the high technological standards during the manufacturing of the fabrics and their waterproofing, during their use, it is invariably the case that the fabrics can suffer dirty marks or staining. These do not impinge on the quality of the fabrics and are only a source of visual irritation. The stains can often be removed with a cloth, omitting the need for dry cleaning. The general care and cleaning instructions are available under the below link.

With tougher stains that can only be removed by dry cleaning, GLATZ recommends that you approach a company which specializes on cleaning awnings and sunshades. In this area, GLATZ AG cooperates with the following companies:

Switzerland:

Schattenwerk, Mark Schori, +41 78 894 59 99, mark@schatten-werk.ch, www.schatten-werk.ch
Stoll Stores, Elodie Villard, +41 24 447 47 07, info@stoll.ch, www.stoll.ch

Germany:

Verband DT Sonnenschutzreiniger (Assoc. of German Sun Protection Cleaners), +49 69 560 34 90, info@vds-sonnenschutz.de, www.vds-sonnenschutz.de

Austria:

SCM Shading Cleaners Mühleder GmbH, +43 664 5324022, office@shadingcleaners.at, www.shadingcleaners.at

Avoid clamping and abrasion damage and premature wear due to strong fluttering and flapping of the fabric in the wind. After closing the parasol, pull out all the lengths of fabric individually and completely between the ribs. Wrap the lengths of fabric tightly around the parasol section in layers. Secure the rolled-up lengths of fabric with the tie straps supplied. (The fabric should not flap in the wind)

GLATZ has fitted braces to the struts. When the sunshade is closed, these prevent the struts from tilting and the sunshade from opening again. This means that it is right that the sunshade does not close completely. The sunshade can only be closed completely with the strap.

It is generally possible to replace roof struts that are broken or defective on all GLATZ models. Depending on the model of GLATZ sunshade, basic technical knowledge (garden sunshades) or advanced technical knowledge (giant sunshades) is required, however. GLATZ recommends the completion of the replacement work by an expert. Please consult the retailer from whom you purchased the product for the appropriate assistance.

The fabric of a sunshade can have different kinds of stains. Many stains can be easily removed manually, and some can only be removed by dry-cleaning. You can find details about this in "Cleaning and maintenance".

The best tips for maintaining your GLATZ sunshade are available under the below link.

Aluminium & Stainless Steel

Aluminum is an easy-care material. However, dirt should be wiped away with a damp rag and then dried with a soft cloth.

The stainless steel which is used by GLATZ is manufactured in 1.4301 / 304 material quality, the industrial standard for outdoor articles. As high quality stainless steel is constantly exposed to weathering, it should be maintained at regular intervals so that it retains its original appearance. Although stainless steel is generally resistant to corrosion, the impact of salt or chlorine can leave small brown marks on its surface. These have no impact on the durability or lifespan of the product. This amounts to surface discoloration only, and can be removed easily with the use of a sponge. Make sure that you rub the steel gently in the direction of the surface treatment. In the case of older stains, GLATZ advises you to treat the material with a «stainless steel cleaner».

Teak & Maple Wood

Teak is a very strong, weatherproof material which gains a natural patina over the course of time (a thin, silver-gray coating). This patina can be cleaned off with a scouring pad and a little hot water if required. If you would like to maintain the original coloration of the wood, when it is dry, you can treat the wood with teak oil (available at most DIY stores). You can leave untreated teak sunshades outside in the winter. Teak sunshades that have been treated with teak oil, however, should be kept under cover. In both cases, GLATZ recommends covering the sunshade fabric with a GLATZ protective cover.

On the Piazzino model, the sunshade rods are varnished. To maintain its attractive visuals, the frame should stay as dry as possible. If this isn't always possible, drying the wood with a soft rag is recommended. Dirt should be wiped away with a damp rag and then dried with a soft cloth.

Although wood is a strong and weatherproof material, in the winter, GLATZ advises you leave your wooden sunshade under cover or indoors. If your storage possibilities are limited, your wooden sunshade requires a GLATZ protective cover. Please make sure that the sunshade is dry before you pull over the protective cover.

GLATZ protective covers are available from your retailer.

Wood is a natural product that changes due to weathering and sunlight. These changes occur differently depending on the exposure. Teak usually gains a typically silver-gray patina. Maple and ash wood become a little darker due to sunlight.

Wintering & Maintenance

GLATZ sunshades are only manufactured using materials which comply with industrial standard for outdoor articles. Notwithstanding the high technological standards during the manufacturing of the GLATZ products, wear caused by weathering can occur which it is impossible to avoid. To ensure the greatest possible degree of protection, during the winter months, GLATZ recommends storing your sunshade under cover, or if it is left outside, with the use of an original protective cover from GLATZ.

For customers from the business sector, the GLATZ specialists for the hotels and gastronomy sector offer a specialist storage and maintenance service.

If you are not able to store your GLATZ sunshade under cover during the winter months, the use of an original protective cover from GLATZ is highly recommended.

You can purchase the protective cover for your Glatz parasol from a dealer near you.

For customers from the business sector, the GLATZ specialists for the hotels and gastronomy sector offer a specialist storage and maintenance service.

GLATZ AG, which is based in Frauenfeld (CH), offers a specialist maintenance service which is available on request. The service capacities at the manufacturer are limited, however. The transportation of goods which are used outside Switzerland to the Swiss Confederation and their maintenance by the manufacturer can be expensive. GLATZ AG recommends its customers contact their specialist retailer about maintenance services. In this respect, the best idea is to contact the GLATZ “Specialists for hotels & gastronomy”.
